30 Days of Type - Alphabet Design Sprint

GD2 | Spring 2021
Project: To create an original alphabet over the duration of 30 days, creating one letter a day.
Solution: My alphabet was inspired by Takenobu Igarashi. I love that there is a difference between seeing and reading; when playing with form, there is enough change to jump between the two. I wanted to create an alphabet that comprises multiple shapes for each letter, which builds a three-dimensional shape. I allowed variation with each; some are empty vessels and others are formed with many closed shapes. It’s either in this absence or presence that a letter is formed.
Created in Adobe Illustrator with the pen tool.
We were asked to create a poster using our alphabet.
A mockup of a possible use for my alphabet.
